Bowen Therapy

The Bowen Technique

What Is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy or ‘The Bowen technique’ is a unique, gentle hands-on therapy, stimulating the body’s own healing responses used in the treatment of musculo-skeletal and sports injuries. Bowen will make gentle non-invasive moves across very particular areas of muscles, ligaments, tendons and connective tissue aiming to carefully trigger particular nerve endings. These nerve endings are involved with the tension of muscles which hold us in correct alignment. When this function is compromised by physical injury, poor posture, emotional injury or constant stress, symptoms often follow. These can range from “bad backs”, stiffness, actual joint injury, headaches, asthma, irritable bowel and many others. It is rapidly becoming very popular in the Uk due to its successful results. It balances and relaxes the whole body, releases muscle spasm and associated pain and allows the body to rid itself of toxins which can often be the cause of many problems.

Who Can Benefit From Bowen Therapy?

The Bowen Technique is suitable for all ages including pregnant women, babies and the elderly population. Victims of sports injuries and accidents have found the Bowen Technique very helpful as a remedial therapy during their recovery and to improve rehabilitation time. Contact our Belfast clinic to make a Bowen Therapy appointment.

What Does Bowen Therapy Treat?

The Bowen Technique is used to treat many conditions including:

  • Sports injuries
  • Back pain / Sciatica
  • Neck and shoulder problems
  • Tennis and golfers elbow
  • Chronic Fatigue and fibromyalgia
  • Ankle, Knee and hip problems
  • Carpel tunnel / RSI
  • Asthma and sinus problems
  • Allergies and hay fever
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Stress and blood pressure
  • Anxiety / Depression
  • Menstrual / Hormonal problems
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

What Will A Treatment Involve?

You will find it extremely gentle, subtle and relaxing. No force is used or needed, and no adjustment of hard tissue. A treatment usually lasts up to 1 hour, where sequences of precise moves are performed, with short periods of rest in between, to allow your body time to initiate healing responses. It can be applied though light clothing if you prefer. You may experience immediate pain relief, although improvement is just as likely to unfold over the next week.

Check out this testimonial from past CEO of Titanic Belfast, now with Westport House & Hotel Westport, Tim Husbands MBE.

‘’I went to see Aidan early in 2016 , after I had suffered a neck injury from football. It had been diagnosed as Acute, and was very debilitating and pain being ever present. Aidan helped me back on the road to recovery , working with health partners, and the health insurance company, initially on a weekly basis with Dry needle work and some muscle treatment. I worked with him over the next twelve months making gradual progress, being sensitive to the pain caused by the injury but needing a firm plan having identified a personalised treatment and fitness programme for me. Now 18 months on, my health is 100% better than it was and I just need to go back every few months for a health check and for any tweaking to be done after the rough and tumble stress caused by everyday work. I am very grateful for his encouragement throughout and for the professional way in which he and his team carry out their work’’.
